A Day in the Life: Managing Eczema and Multiple Food Allergies with a Toddler

Life with a toddler is a beautiful whirlwind of energy, joy, and, of course, a few challenges along the way. With eczema and food allergies in the mix, it becomes a balancing act where patience, and a little creativity are key. Today, I’m sharing a peek into a typical day in our life managing eczema and food allergies.

🍽 Food: Nourishing with Whole Foods

One of the most important aspects of our daily routine is food. Eczema flare-ups and food allergies are connected, so we make it a point to stick to whole foods—no processed foods here! We focus on nourishing his body with natural, safe ingredients, and it’s become a vital part of our daily routine. From fresh fruits and vegetables to clean proteins like chicken and turkey, we prioritize wholesome meals that support his overall health and skin.

Meal planning can be a bit tricky at times, but we’ve learned to get creative with snacks and meals that are allergy-friendly and eczema-friendly. It’s all about finding what works and keeping it simple while making sure he gets all the nutrients his body needs to thrive.

🌞 Playtime: Sunshine & Fresh Air

A toddler’s energy is boundless, and we try to channel that energy into outdoor activities every day. Whether it's a short walk around the block, some time spent playing in the backyard, or simply soaking up a few minutes of sunshine, getting outdoors makes a huge difference.

Fresh air and movement are great for keeping his spirits up, but they’re also beneficial for his skin. I’ve found that outdoor playtime can help him stay calm and settled, which reduces stress—a factor that can contribute to eczema flare-ups. Plus, we’re always looking for new ways to make outdoor time fun, and it’s a bonus that it supports his health at the same time.

💧 Flare-Ups: Soothe & Relieve

Despite our best efforts, flare-ups happen. Initially, it felt like eczema was unpredictable, and some days were better than others. Now when a flare-up happens, we have a few go-to tools to help soothe his irritated skin. One of my favorites is a pH-balancing duo that’s become an absolute lifesaver in these moments. It helps calm the inflammation and brings some much-needed relief, providing both immediate comfort and long-term healing. We hit each spot with this Rosemary Spray, let it dry and then spray it with this. At time we'll do the same combo but instead of the spray I'll use the Briotech Gel on.

When flare-ups happen, it can feel like a setback, but I’ve learned to approach it with a new mindset that it is a constant learning process, and each flare-up is just another opportunity to figure out what works best for his skin.

Whether you’re navigating a similar journey with your little one or just trying to make sense of the daily challenges that come with eczema and food allergies, know that you’re not alone. There’s no perfect way to manage it, but finding a rhythm that works for you and your family can make all the difference. Keep going, and don’t forget to celebrate the little victories along the way!
